JAVIER MALIK AND SABRINA IDESES
I completed my Mechina (preparatory year) year at Tel Aviv University and transferred to Hebrew University. When I first arrived, I didn’t know anyone, but was pleasantly surprised by soon making friends from all over South America and Israel. These people are still my close friends and we speak all the time.
I studied at Mt. Scopus and initially lived in the dorms before moving over to French Hill. One year into my studies, I met Sabrina. Some of our mutual friends introduced us, and one night I invited everyone over (including Sabrina) and made a lovely meal. Sabrina and I had mutual friends, attended the same parties and outings, and watched all the soccer games together. We also spent many hours studying together in the library.
I really enjoyed my time at HU. I loved studying economics there and had excellent teachers. I remember one of the teacher’s assistants, Alon Pinkus, who is a former Consul General for Israel in New York. Playing soccer with my South American friends every Friday was a highlight.
Sabrina and I quickly became an exclusive couple. Once we finished our hard-earned degrees, we moved back to Argentina and got married. We then relocated with our children (two girls, now 13 and 16) to Aventura, Florida, where we worked extremely hard to build our now well-known furniture store and company, Habitus. We enjoy our work in the field of modern, top-of-the-line furniture.
Our daughters are following in our footsteps; the youngest is going to Jewish sleepaway camp, while our older daughter will attend Alexander Muss High School in Israel.
