GABRIEL BRAKHA

Gabriel fell in love. He fell in love with the academics of Hebrew University. "I was impressed with the knowledge the professors had there. I had studied in Europe as well, but at HU it’s like they injected something into their brains! The professors are so smart.”

After completing his service in the IDF, Gabriel lived at his parents’ apartment while attending HU. Gabriel’s connection to HU is in part rooted in his parents’ love story –they attended the university where they met and fell in love. Gabriel’s father, Yaakov Brakh, studied political science at HU, which led to a career as an ambassador in Paraguay, Bolivia, Panama and Costa Rica. Both Gabriel’s parents were diplomats, which led to a unique upbringing traveling all over the world.

Gabriel always loved science, knowing from a young age that he wanted to major in earth science and chemistry because of his early fascination with geography, weather and geology. When asked about his memories about HU, he said "I had a lot of respect for my professors.” His favorite memories are taking courses that were very challenging like physical chemistry and organic chemistry. "I was very impressed with the physical chemistry professor actually. He happened to have won an award in poetry…poetry on molecules.” His professor was someone who made his students laugh and taught them a lot with his quirky style. Gabriel remembered how Professor Trainin asked "what do you think the molecules and atoms are doing right now?” Silence fell upon the room and Trainin answered his own question, "vibrating.” He remembers and acknowledges the high caliber of the HU students was also of a high level.

Since most of his courses were mostly at the Givat Ram campus, outside of class his favorite times were hanging out on the Mt. Scopus campus and going to parties. He still keeps in touch with friends who accompanied him to those parties –friends from Iran, Belgium, and Spain.

Gabriel was born in France and studied French at HU to become fluent. Gabriel had the wonderful opportunity to live in Israel for about 14 years, as well as in many other countries including: France, Brazil, Panama, Holland, Colombia and Belgium. He now resides in Hollywood, Florida with his two children (a boy, 13, and a girl, 8) where he has his own insurance company (health, life, long-term care).

"HU gave me the tools to analyze and solve complex problems and to get through many challenges.”
